The Eye Health Academy represents a collaboration among key industry stakeholders in education, eye disease, and patient health.

Eye Health Academy partners include the National Eye Institute (NEI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (a member of the US Department of Health and Human Services), the National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP), and Prova Education.

The Academy’s overarching goal is to leverage healthcare professional education to improve sight and prevent vision loss in patients through early diagnosis, referral, and treatment of diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. This collective partnership has the potential to impact the quality of life of millions of patients with diabetes.

The National Eye Institute (NEI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the US Department of Health and Human Services was established by Congress in 1968 to protect and prolong the vision of the American people. NEI research leads to sight-saving treatments, reduces visual impairment and blindness, and improves the quality of life for people of all ages.

The National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP) aims to increase awareness among healthcare professionals and the public of science-based health information that can be applied to preserving sight and preventing blindness. To accomplish this mission, NEHEP partners with over 60 national, professional, civic and government agencies concerned with eye health.
