Contact Lenses Driving Business

Dr. Glover
I love optometry. And currently right now, the landscape has completely changed from when I got out of school to practicing today. But what I see with that is an opportunity to really help patients live their best lives and in particular, when it comes to contact lenses. I'm curious to know how are you leveraging contact lens to drive value for your business?
Dr. Gustafson
Yeah. In my practice, contact lenses comprise about 50% of my patient encounters.
Dr. Glover
50%. Wow.
Dr. Gustafson
So it's a lot of my patients, so I want to keep each and every one of those patients in the practice and in contact lenses. Leveraging the Alcon portfolio of technology those patients stay in contact lenses and don't become a dropout statistic. And additionally, we know contact lens patients come to see us more often. They are in more frequently, they're in our businesses making purchases and receiving healthcare.
Additionally, I feel like I generate more word of mouth from my contact lens patients, because they have that many more layers of experience with me. They're getting glasses from me, they're getting contact lenses, and care, and that helps me grow my online presence through Google reviews and get the word out about my practice and help bring more patients into my practice and keep the business healthy and thriving and growing.
Dr. Glover
I love that you're really painting a picture of creating more touch points. In optometry, we did a horrible job or have done a horrible job of creating more touch points in our profession. I mean, look at dentistry. They have patients come in at the minimum twice a year, right? And to your point, to be able to have that walking billboard is priceless, especially when you have the Alcon portfolio of WaterInnovation lenses. That's going to elevate loyalty, drive patients in, and really drive the business through contact lens.
Selena, what are you doing in your practice?
Dr. McGee
I 1000% agree with what Britt said. And for me, I think it honestly, as a marketing piece of what we're doing, so contact lenses are a pillar inside our practice. And there's a lot of opportunity with introducing patients to contact lenses, keeping patients in contact lenses, and really customizing that experience that allows us to have that patient experience. But I think of contact lenses, honestly, as a way to market and differentiate our practice from anybody else on the patient experience side.
Dr. Glover
And the thing I love about contact lens, just like glasses, you can really customize the approach of what the patient needs. Maybe they're doing something for sports, maybe they're traveling, maybe it's work. What contact lens can you prescribe for them that's going to accommodate their lifestyle and continue to bring them into the practice more consistently.
